Made this lovely battered cauliflower as part of our dinner tonight! I hope my boyfriends going to like it! Growing up my mother used to make this and it has been one of my faves ever since. It’s another wonderful Hungarian dish which we call in our language Rantott Karfiol. I’ll post the ingredients and the directions below!
1 Head of cauliflower
3 Large eggs
6 Tablespoons all purpose flour
3 Cups half and half cream
1 Tsp sea salt
1. In a deep pot, bring water to a boil. Cut cauliflower into chunky pieces, not too big though! Throw the cauliflower into the pot and boil them until you can stick a fork in them. Do not overcook the cauliflower or else it will be a mushy mess! Put on a separate plate so it’s not sitting in the water.
2. In a pan, add cooking oil so it is half way full. Bring to medium/high heat. Once that’s heating up, grab a mixing bowl. Whisk 3 large eggs, add in the cream, salt and flour. Whisk all ingredients together.
3. Once the oil has heated up, dip the cauliflower in the batter and carefully place in the oil. Once their golden brown flip them, make sure all sides are the same colour. Once their done place them on a plate that is lined with paper towel so it catches all the excess oil. Voila! and their done!
