After watching many videos on YouTube this morning of people eating very hot wings, we got inspired to make our own spicy wings! We set out on our task of getting a spicy hot sauce to coat our wings in – thus a trip to the mall. GreenEarth has a surprisingly large selection of hot sauces and spicy items.
We wanted to go hot, but bearable. We decided to try Ass Kickin’ Moonshine Pepper Mash, which ended up costing us $14.99! The Moonshine Pepper Mash consists of water jalapeno mash..not quite sure what that really is but it packs a punch of spiciness for sure!
If I had to rate the heat of this sauce, it would have to be around 7 out of 10. It was very enjoyable, nips at your lips again and makes you kind of drool. The consistency is great for wings, it isn’t too liquidy but not super thick either so it was super for this recipe. Here’s what the bottle looks like!
Now for how we baked our superb wings!
We took a pack of about 22-24 chicken wings and added 4 teaspoons of baking powder. I know it sounds weird putting that on wings but just trust me! add about a teaspoon of salt, and give it all a good stir until all the wings are evenly coated. They should not feel wet, should have a dry texture. Go ahead and line a baking tray with aluminium paper or parchment paper. Lay out the wings individually so their not touching one another, then set your oven for 250 degrees. Throw the wings in for half an hour on that heat, it will help render the fat. Then when that’s done set the oven to 425 for 40-50 minutes, keep an eye on them so they don’t burn! They should be crispy when done with a nice golden colour. Once finished coat them in a nice sauce, we highly suggest the hot sauce we used!
